You got cost to life and you got cost to death - Both are costy, if unexpected happens. Ideally, you can choose both proactively.
Having worked in Hospitals, I realized that Healthcare cost, a big trunk of it, comes from near-dying care - not well defined life of extension. Often, patients want to die with dignity - when they're aware of who they're able to decide how to ge to Heaven.
I's shocked when I read 贝尔奖得主 勒内·德迪 took physician-assisted-suicide (I don't like this term) - better to use "physician-assisted-end-of-life" as below.

Death with Dignity laws allow qualified terminally-ill adults to voluntarily request and receive a prescription medication to hasten their death. As of June 9, 2016, California, Oregon,Vermont, and Washington have Death with Dignity statutes. In Montana, physician-assisted dying is legal by State Supreme Court ruling.
