Dear Ms June,
We are children parents of Learning Vision Nanyang Technological University (NTU) centre. We want to feed back some issues of the centre.
We selected Learning Vision NTU centre for our children because we liked the core value and mission it stood for. Our children also enjoyed coming to the centre during the first year. They liked the care, love and concern from the teachers.
With the recent one-year change, as parents we feel that the centre has deviated from its core value and mission, and standard has dropped. We would like to bring some of the issues to your attention:
1. Lack of care and concern. 1) The teachers look sluggish, lack of passion and even speak nothing when the children come to the centre in the morning. There is no affinity between the teacher and the children. 2) We observe that when the children are brought to the playground, the teachers are chatting among themselves, instead of taking care of the children's safety. 3) The mattress cover, quilt and pillow are not allowed to be brought to the center. We notice that our children experience the rashes and itchiness.
Here, we also would like to give an example: After shower, a K1 teacher found that there was a toilet roll cardboard in the toilet bowl. The teacher asked one child to pick up the toilet roll cardboard from the toilet bowl using his hand. We can't imagine a teacher could force a child to do this.
1. Unprofessional conduct. 1) The teachers generally lack patience when the children make noises. They are usually very stern and howl down the noisy children. So the children refuse to go to the centre as they are afraid to face the teachers. 2) It seems that watching TV is the only activity after playing in playground. We believe the children should be kept engaged in more meaningful activities other than watching TV. 4) The N1 teachers require the children to collect their water bottles to the schoolbags at 5:30PM. From 5:30PM to parents coming to fetch the children, children don't drink water in more than 1 hour.
Also, an example: A child is noisy in K1, he/she was not permitted to have lunch. Instead the child was made to sit in a corner.
There are a lot of other issues like diet, cleanliness, e.g. Milk drink for N1 and N2 is cancelled. Afternoon tea is served around 6:30PM and there is very long time between two tea service times. Children feel very hungry. The lunch table is not sterilized frequently and there are many ants in the table. Toilet condition is poor.
We have fed back the above issues to the teacher Kenneth many times, but we don't see any improvement for long time.
However, some teachers in the centre are very welcome by the children. So we would like to express our appreciation to teacher Pu, teacher Liang, teacher Grace and teacher Lakshimi for their constant caring, concern and love to the children.
Ms June, could you please come to NTU at your convenient time? We would like to meet you and share more details and unbelievable cases with you. We also want to hear your voice. Thanks.
Looking forward to your reply!
Best regards, Parents from Learning Vision NTU centre
