A Woman of Your Own Kind

The lonely houses you see at night under your brave wings

Shadow by shadow, lay bare like dreamless ghosts in the wind

A woman of your own kind, soft-voiced & half-possessed, an rare thing

You have lightened the sunken roofs with nothing in hand

You build fires in hearts’ newfound caves, darker than the loveless night

A woman of your own kind, on shaky ground your red shoes firmly stand

Under skillets, carvings, silvers, whispers, furniture and linen covers, you feed

the starved and the feeble minded, accompanying love to the very end

You have ridden the fastest car racing against an aging planet

A woman of your own kind, smiling benignly at the uneven human pines

Your eyes still burn on my chest, your song twisting my burning loin

I am not ashamed to fight & die for a woman of your own kind
