《The Eagle Nebula》
---a found poem
Star-forming region
7000 light years away
Columns of gas and dust
new stars recently formed
The tallest of the pillars
One light year in length
Dense clouds of dust and gas
survive the flooding by ultraviolet light
from nearby hot stars
As the pillars are slowly eroded
by the ultraviolet light,
small globules of even denser
gas and dust buried within the pillars
are uncovered
Within these globules
embryonic stars are forming
Red emission from singly ionized sulfur atoms,
green emission from atomic hydrogen,
and blue emission from warmer,
doubly-ionized oxygen atoms.
And
let's imagine...
