Time Stands Still (图)

Since yesterday afternoon, NYC has been clobbered by a winter blizzard which dumped 15-24 inches of powder on the ground depending on which part of town people live.

On the one hand, the gusty wind and heavy snow-fall have completely crippled the transportations to stand-still, on the other hand, this never-sleep city was muffled in beautiful white and surreality quietness as if it were a remotely rural village. For instance, this early morning, one can literately do cross-country ski on the always-jammed 5th ave without seeing a single moving vehicle for while. How amazing it was !

Although it was intoxicating and exhilarating scene, my morning commute became a totally nightmare: A normally 15-20 minute ride turned into a somewhat an eternity. On my way , I was thinking that how vulnerable and insignificant we are when an act of nature or divine intervention intervenes even we have most advanced technology at hand, but still ...

There is a really good thing though, under the extreme situation, people from every walk of life come together, demonstrating their true grits to helping each other in all possible way from pushing stalled and stranded cars back to road to assisting fellow pedestrians to cross the treacherous intersections. In the time like this, the real spirit of New Yorkers does shine.

Put an old song to remember today, 12/27/2010.
