Pandas are lousy lovers and even worse at making panda cubs.
The males don't know what they are doing and the females aren't hot to trot long enough - just 48 hours in a year.
However, there seems to be a bit of a 'baby boom' going on in the panda pits.
In 2005 there were just 12 panda births in China. In 2000 there were only 9.
This year there have been 31 births, of which 28 have survived.
