女孩不是狮子

This morning right after we started off to the daycare, Olivia said to me:

“Mommy, my tummy hurts. Really, I am not lying. I am old enough not to lie.”

I chuckled to myself, thinking: “Honey, you had it exactly backwards.”

“So you have been lying since you were little then?” I teased her.

“Yeah.”

Evan heard his sister and said to me: “Mommy, girls can not be lions.”

I thought: 这都哪跟哪儿呀(what does this have anything to do with that?), but then realized thathe did not know what the word “lie” meant yet and “lying” sounded justlike “lion”. So I played along with him.

“Okay, so girls can not be lions. How about the boys?”

“Hm…I am a moose.”

姐弟之争

Assister and brother, Olivia and Evan compete with each other for almosteverything. The rule of thumb is “what he or she has, I have to have;what I can’t have, he or she can not have either”.
They compete from wanting the same toy or book to fighting for my attention; from one can not have one cracker more than the other to one can not watch his or her show two times in a row; from one can not have morekisses, hugs or “I love you” than the other to…ah…one can not be sickerthan the other.

Daddy took today off to take care of Olivia and Evan since both of them aresick. First thing after I got home, I put my hand on Olivia’s forehead(couldn’t trust what daddy told me on the phoneJ) and said: “Mm, not bad.” Then I did the same thing for Evan.

“Wow, Evan is little hot.” I said.

“Does that mean Evan is sicker than me?” Olivia asked.

“Yeah, I think he is having a fever.” I answered.

“Oh! Evan is running the perfect fever and I am not! Now I have to go toschool tomorrow and he does not. But I am sick too. I threw up at lunchtime.” Olivia complained.

“Okay Olivia, if that is the case (which daddy confirmed), you are sick too and you do not have to school either” I declared.
BTW, since both me and daddy has taken one and a half day off this week and someone has to stay home tomorrow to take care of them, by default, it's mommy's turn again.
