Olivia's First Resume and the First Job!

(2011-03-12 07:29:50) 下一个

Right after Olivia met the minimum age requirement of 11 at the beginning of the year, she spent a full Saturday attending American Red Cross Babysitter's training course (infants to grade school) and got her certificate.

She came home in high spirit and created her first resume and printed them on very nice pager that Daddy used to print his resume when he was looking for job (I was not sure whether she got this idea herself or it was suggested by the trainer).  She planed to give these resume out to the parents at the bus stop to let them know that she was available to babysit their younger ones if there was a need.

Her resume included the following:

Her name, address and phone number

Objective:

Willing to babysit toddlers to grade school in our Development

Education:

Elementary School, 5th Grade (Advanced Math, Reading and Science)

Training:

1) American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course (infants to grade school) – January 2011;

2) YMCA Counselor in Training Course (CIT) – Spring 2010

(This course requires minimum age of 13. Olivia has been helping out her counselors for the past couple of years. The counselor who gave the training course liked her so much that she thought Olivia was mature enough for her to make an exception)

Skills:
Caring for kids for all ages. Safety, first aid, and basics for caring for a child

Other:

1)      Elementary School Library Helper (2 years)

2)      Volunteer at YMCA Summer Camp

3)      Girl Scout (junior)

4)      Volunteer Guest at Peter Becker Community

And I think she should add that she is a Karate junior Black Belt in training.

So she brought these resumes and gave out to the parents at the bus stop the next day and she got her first baby sitter job on the spot!

Our neighbor two house down the road have two boys who are eight and five. The boys are good friends of Evan and they play together all the time. The mom needed a babysitter in the evening of Valentine's Day for about two hours and it was very nice of her to give this opportunity to Olivia who was known for her maturity around the neighborhood. I remember Olivia was so excited the day before. She kept on telling me: "I can not believe I will have my first job tomorrow!"

She arranged everything with the mom of the two boys all by herself. Olivia even told her that she didn't have to get paid this time and that if the mom liked how she cared for her kids, she could get paid for babysitting them in the future.

The babysitting on Valentine's Day went very well and Olivia came home with $10 for her one and a half hour of work. She said the mom insisted paying her and she was very happy that she made some money on her first job.

Great job, Olivia! I am very proud of you! J
