The day before the Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year, Olivia told me and Daddy that she and Evan would take charge of the kitchen the next day during lunch time. She and Evan will make and serve the Valentine / Chinese New Year lunch for us.
Around noon on Valentine's Day, Olivia and Evan started to call us from downstairs: "Mommy, Daddy, come downstairs! It's lunch time!"
We went down and found Olivia in the middle of the kitchen with the red apron on that they got by doing draft work at Lowe's when they were young. And with both hands in his pockets, Evan was wondering around the kitchen. The kitchen table was already set up for the two of us with two plates and utensils around them.
We sat down and ordered our drinks and Evan was the one who served them. Olivia then took out a notebook where she wrote down the menu (see attached) and took our orders. I forgot what Daddy ordered but mine was grilled salami sandwich. Both Olivia and Evan recommended Italian bread to me saying "It is so good, better than the potato bread." I then asked Olivia whether I could go upstairs until the food is ready.
"No, "she said, "You and Daddy need to sit here and talk about your relationship, you know, just like what you would do when you go out eating in a restaurant on a Valentine's Day."
Haha, okay…I forgot for what reason I did end up doing something upstairs (Daddy was with them the whole time) and they called me when my order was ready. I came down and was surprised to find Evan sitting next to me with a jelly sandwich and a cup of orange juice in front of him.
"What are you doing here? I thought you work in the restaurant, how can you sit down and eat with the customers?" I asked.
"I was fired so I am eating with you." Evan answered with a giggle.
"What?! What did you do?" I looked at Olivia who was still cooking.
"Yeah, I fired him cause he was just goofing around and not working." Olivia said.
Yeah, I can imagineJ…
My salami sandwich was very delicious. Good job, Olivia! And thanks for cooking Valentine's lunch for us! J
After we finished eating, Olivia gave us the bill and said: "Well, here is your bill. Your orders are zero cents and the tax is zero cents. But how much tip would you like to give to me?" she gave us a mischievous smile.
Ah, I didn't know she was going to make money out of thisJ.
"How about a dollar?" I asked.
"How much Evan gets then, he did serve you the drink." Olivia asked. Wow, that was considerate of her thinking about her brother.
"How about 25 cents?" I suggested.
"Sure!" Olivia had no problem with it.
Turned out Daddy thought Mommy was being too cheap to the kids when he paid the bill and he raised the tip to two dollars with only 10 cents to the bus boy. Poor Evan! J
