Who is that in the book?

(2006-02-06 19:13:05) 下一个

I just finished reading “My Mother – Yang Mo (母亲杨沫)” by her son 老鬼 today (1/28/06), which by the way is very good (Kiddies -杨沫 is a famous writer who wrote a novel called “The Song of Youth” which affected a whole generation of Chinese in 1950’s).

I put the book down on the bed and started writing for this blog. Evan ran into the room with a “Bong!”  trying to scare me. He got on the bed and found the book. He sat down with his legs crossed, held the book on his laps and told me:

“Mommy, I am going to read this book.”

“Really? Is this book in Chinese or English?”

He looked at the cover and flipped a couple of pages. “It is in Chinese.”

“Right! But can you understand Chinese?”

I forgot this was not the right way to ask the question as he went: “找呀找呀找朋友, 找到一个好朋友…” again.

Then I saw him flipping to a page with a 杨沫’s picture in her fifties. So I asked:

“Evan, who is that in the book?” I pointed to the picture.

He took a quick look and immediately answered “外婆! (Grandma)”
