(Victoria Harbour)

The Victoria Harbour is one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. The harbour has had a long history, starting with its use by First Nations. Recreational vessels and small cruise ships can moor in the centre of this famous heritage city, just steps from its historic streets and distinctive architecture. During the summer months, the harbour is the focus of festivals, shows and music. The harbour also serves whale watching and touring businesses, float planes, an International Ferry terminal and a water taxi service.

It is a busy but peaceful harbour. I enjoyed my time when I was walking along the harbour. Particularly, the harbour sceneries in the sunset looked extremely fantastic and splendid. Seawater under the soft sunset looked glittering and sparkling and even a little bit mysterious. The gentle breeze and fresh salty smell from the ocean were so pleasant for me. Seagulls were hovering and soaring in the sky. Different types of fish boats and tour ships were parking along the docks. Some of the boats were decorated with striking Indigenous patterns. Fishermen were drinking and chatting after a long day’s hard work. The tourists from different places of the world were talking in different languages while appreciating the views along the coast.

I couldn't help but think of my hometown Qingdao.

I remembered that the sea waves splashed on us while we were on the whale watching vessel, some people who accidently sipped the seawater were complaining how salty the water was, but I even voluntarily licked some dripping sea water on my lips many times. It tasted ridiculously familiar to me, exactly like the flavour of fresh seafood I ate everyday when I was young. I always think people’s taste buds have their roots closely bound up with the brains – physically and mentally.
