叶芝的诗：当你老去

       When you are old  是 叶芝(1865～1939)写给茅德·冈 的情诗。 1889年23岁的叶芝第一次遇见了美丽的女演员茅德·冈，她时年22岁，是一位驻爱尔兰英军上校的女儿，她投身到争取爱尔兰民族独立的运动中，并成为领导人之一。这在叶芝的心目中平添一轮特殊的光晕。 
叶芝对于茅德·冈一见钟情，而且一往情深，求婚却遭拒绝。尽管如此，叶芝对于她的爱慕终身不渝，写下了很多诗歌来描绘激情的爱恋，绝望的怨恨，以及爱和恨之间复杂的张力。

当你老去，鬓发灰霜，睡意酣沉

暖炉旁倦卧，轻取此书，缓缓阅读

追忆那轻柔的凝眸和

深沉的晕波 

 

几多爱慕你青春的靓影

似真如幻倾心你的美貌

唯他爱你朝圣者的灵魂

爱那岁月隽刻在面庞里的忧伤

 

你在炉栅边弯腰低语，轻浅抑郁

爱情如何逝去

如何步上群山，在繁星掩映中

遮住了脸

When you are old and grey and full of sleep, 　　 
 And nodding by the fire, take down this book, 　　 
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look 　　 
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; 　 
 
How many loved your moments of glad grace, 　　 
And loved your beauty with love false or true, 　　 
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you, 　　 
And loved the sorrows of your changing face; 　 



And bending down beside the glowing bars,
