What Drew Barrymore’s co-stars really think of her beauty line

Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette sit down with us in Sydney.

Drew Barrymore has added another bow to her ever-expanding CV of actor, producer, director, mum: beauty mogul.

The actress’s Flower Beauty range, which she launched in 2013, is receiving myriad accolades, and ringing endorsements from her friends and co-stars.

“Oh I love Drew’s beauty range!” Barrymore’s Miss You Already co-star Toni Collette told Vogue Australia. “You can’t leave home without the chubby stick – you can use it on your cheeks and lips!”

Barrymore is extremely passionate about the range, to which she recently added eyewear, and which she showcases with popular beauty tutorials on her website.

“I care so much about the formulas and the ingredients and the integrity, and we don’t put any dollars into marketing, it all goes into the products,” she said.

Barrymore said the business model behind Flower Beauty means it is a luxe product available to the mass market – for now, it is sold exclusively in Wal-Mart stores in the US (we’re hoping she’ll launch online here soon).

“We’re able to literally have these luxury prestige department store formulas in a mass market. Mass make-up is so good that you have to be that good in order to even compete. It’s such a fun world to live in, and it’s good for my daughters – we’re a company made by women for women, I can’t give my daughters acting, but maybe if this works they can work for a beauty company!”

Barrymore was in Sydney last week for the premiere of Miss You Already, a girl-buddy tearjerker comedy which she stars with Collette as two best friends who travel the highs and lows of dealing with cancer, fertility issues and life in general. The actresses formed a close bond in real life.

“It was a lot of fun and it was sad – it’s both,” said Collette. “It was just like real life, not like movie life where everything’s the same. And these women have a beautiful love for each other, a life long friendship and it’s about all the changes that they go through and how strengthening it ultimately is.”

Barrymore agreed: “I loved the idea that these women could laugh together and take such good care of each other and be so honest at times where it’s the last thing you want to hear. I thought of the friendships that I had with my girlfriends who were my first family before I had children of my own. I’ve gone through everything with them and I love them so much I felt like this story encapsulates what women who are lifelong friends go through, it was so beautiful and honest and real. It addresses what people are going through in a way that’s not depressing… I just thought it was kick ass!”
