The tag price for the two blue and white pieces is $290 each. I think they worth 290 RMB (retail price). The sales told me that the sell price has to be at least 4X buy-in price to make it even for them (shipping, rent, sales people travel, etc.) They know that Chinese like to bargain, so they artificially inflate the price to leave themselves room for bargaining. They normally sell these pieces at 50% off tag price. So they must have a comfortable margin at this price. Usually at the end of the show, they sell them at 70-80% off. That probably is close to their get even price (still 4x buy-in price). If I can find these pieces in Beijing or Shanghai, they will not be the wholesale price either. I will have to pay retail price, which is probably twice or more of the whole sale price. That means, I could get them for half the price what I paid here in the US.
Last night, I checked the price for Jing De Zhen porcelain on the Chinese online shopping websites. The better pieces are between 500-1000 RMB online, and commoners are 200-300 RMB. That is really not much cheaper than the price in the US.
