One of the best books I've ever read. "Angela's Ashes" won the Pulitzer's in 1997, and was later made into a movie by the same name. It is powerfully written, a very realistic depiction of growing up in extreme poverty during 1930s and 1940s, in Ireland and New York. What is amazing to me is that throughout the whole book one learns about all the hardship, tragedies and struggle, but never get the feeling of bitterness or despair. Instead as I follow the story I am touched and captivated by a sense of persistence, hope, and humor. Found this clip on YouTube, with a summary of the book and scenes from the movie: Music post by Mosical -- thanks! | |
