Sears也是一个经常见到的百货商店，是一个比较老牌的百货商店。前面讲到，Sears被Kmart收购，但是最后用的名字反而是Sears。大约5到10年前，Sears还有不少顾客，衣服什么的虽然不是那么吸引人，但也还不是完全不可以买，电子类的家用电器比如电视和数码相机的价格跟Best Buy或者Wal-Mart还有得一比。近几年Sears更衰落了，河边一家很久不在Sears买衣服了，电子类家电的价格也经常比竞争对手高一些。据维基百科的介绍，Kmart和Sears之所以衰落，其中一个原因是没有重视电子类产品。
不过，现在的Sears也不是完全没有可取之处。Sears的冰箱炉灶洗衣机在促销时价格还是很不错的，河边今年卖房子前就在Sears买了很高级的冰箱，灶台和微波炉，安装好了自己都不用，就为了卖房子讨好买家。打了30%的折，但是免费运送和安装就不可兼得了。另外，Sears的机械工具，电动工具和汽车工具品种还很多。河边没在Sears买过大型的工具，但是有时还挺喜欢逛一逛，感觉在这方面，Sears可以和Home Depot或Lowe’s竞争吧。还有，Sears还有一个汽车配件部，应该是在什么历史时期收购的另一家公司。记得Macy’s有时候会有独立的Macy’s家具部，但是没有汽车配件部。
JCPenny的档次，有人认为比Sears略高，有人认为比Sears略低。近十年来，Sears在走下坡路，但是JCPenny客流量很大。JCPenny的东西比较全，比如衣服有很多款式，型号也齐全，价格还比较便宜。之所以能比较红火，还价格便宜，又能不断的搞减价促销，我相信应该跟进货渠道有关。河边感觉，与Target相类似，JCPenny的货源很多来自中国，款式上的小小新鲜感和价格优势都有了，但是总体质量不够上乘。
Kohl’s，有人把它放在打折百货商店类，跟Target，Wal-Mart，和Kmart相提并论；也有人把它算做中级百货商店，跟Sears和JCPenny并列。这两种说法都是网上读者的个人感想。根据维基百科，Kohl’s算是一个百货商店，但是它的商店入口，以及采用一条“环形跑道”穿越整个商店的设计则是打折店常用的设计，一般的百货商店不常使用，难怪不同的人对Kohl’s的看法不同。
河边最早发现Kohl’s是在8年前的芝加哥近郊North Riverside（河边的笔名就来自Riverside，一个位于North Riverside南边一点，很有历史的小城）。当时的Kohl’s还挺高级的，浴巾什么的一条都挺贵，但是质量非常好。河边就买它打折的浴巾，还一激动买了一个慢炖锅，后来也没怎么用。最近，离我家很近的Kohl’s寄Coupon来，我就去逛了一下，正赶上全店都在打折。广播里还不断在邀请大家申请Kohl’s信用卡，会员购物如何如何优惠。当时感觉，美国的经济真的是不太景气，这些商店都在想尽办法让顾客当回头客。
Kohl’s现在的状态，说它是百货商店，它有点儿不够格，东西也不够齐全。拿它跟Bed, Bath & Beyond比，好象商品的品类倒是差不多，不同的是Kohl’s还卖衣服，而Bed, Bath & Beyond只是买厨房，卫生间，卧室用品和窗帘什么的。感觉上，好象Bed, Bath & Beyond在扩展，而Kohl’s在走下坡路。
我在网上想查一下这些百货商店的档次排名，没有找到官方的资料，只找到一些顾客根据自己的经验写的名单，如果谁有官方的比较资料，欢迎你告诉我。下面的这个排名方法不少读者认为比较合理：

Lord&Taylor - 6: only the city one is nice and has good stuff. the shoes and contemporarysection are pretty good, but i never really shop there
Nordstrom - 7 :great contemporary section with some good brands ,but i dont like the BP andthe contemporary section is not big enough
