RE: People vs. Peter Liang

Indictment No. 9988/2014

Dear Honorable Chun,

I am writing this letter to express my anger and disappointment with the recent indictment of Officer Liang. It is a tragedy for both families. I feel deeply for the family of the victim. On the other hand, it is an accident and we all know it. If Officer Liang were a criminal, he would have shot the victim directly. He had no control over a bouncing bullet. Nor did he have a motive. He is a fine young man who has an excellent track record and wants to serve his country.

Your indictment will habe a long lasting damaging effect on the police and the whole country. If you indict a fine police officer simply because of an accident, how do you expect policemen to do their work in the future? They put their life on the line for us and have to make a decision in a split second.  Accidents or mistakes are almost unavoidable. Is the American judicial system going to indict any police officer who has an accident? Who would want to be a police officer in the future?

The death of Akai Gurley is a tragedy. Please do not create another tragedy by indicting Officer Peter Liang. Let him serve the public. Do not set a precedence to penalize a police officer based on accidents. They need our support, not indictment. Please help Officer Liang. You will do a great service for all policemen in this country.

Thank you

Dear Mayor Bill De Blasio,

I am writing this letter to express my anger and disappointment with the recent indictment of Officer Liang. It is a tragedy for both families. I feel deeply for the family of the victim. On the other hand, it is an accident. We all know it.  If Officer Liang were a criminal, he would have shot the victim directly. He had no control over a bouncing bullet. Nor did he have a motive. On the contrary, Officer Liang has a spotless track record of personal history.

Your indictment will have long a lasting damaging effect for the police and the whole country. If you indict a fine police officer simply because of an accident, how do you expect policemen to do their work in the future? They put their life on the line for the people in New York City and have to make a decision in a split of a second.  Accidents or mistakes are almost unavoidable. Is the American judicial system going to indict any police officer who has an accident? In that case, who wants to be a police officer in the future? Do you think anyone will want to work for NYPD?

The death of Akai Gurley is a tragedy. Please do not create another tragedy by indicting Peter Liang. Please do not set a precedence to penalize a police officer based on accidents.Could you please step in and correct the situation? Please use your influence. Free Officer Liang, you will do a great service for all policemen.

Thank you

Do you think anyone would send their kids to work for NYPD?

The death of Akai Gurley is a tragedy. Please do not create another tragedy by indicting Peter Liang. Please do not set a precedence to penalize a police officer based on accidents.Officer Liang should not be prosecuted in the first place. What your office did is not in the best interest of people in this country. Police needs support, not indictment.
