What Now?

Today is Sunday, April 22nd. This week's gardening chores include:

  • Cauliflower: Transplant hardened-off seedlings 2' apart in rows 30" apart.
  • Lettuce: Sow seeds directly in rows 12" apart and cover with scant 1/4" of soil. Keep moist.
  • Onions: Transplant hardened-off seedlings 2-3" apart in rows 12-16" apart. In the North, plant onion sets as soon as the soil can be worked. In the South, plant onion sets in the fall.

What Next?

Looking ahead, next week's gardening chores include:

  • Beets: Sow seeds directly in rows 12" apart and cover with 1/2" of soil. Keep moist.
  • Carrots: Sow seeds directly in rows 12" apart. Cover seeds with 1/2" of soil and keep moist.
  • Radishes: Sow seeds directly in rows 6" apart and cover with 1/2" of soil. Keep moist.
  • Swiss Chard: Sow seeds directly in average soil about 6" apart and cover with 1/2" of fine soil. Keep evenly moist.
