We never shared this, but I’ve been dreaming about country life for a long long time. You know I bought a vacant land 9 years ago, no clue how to deal with it. At the end of last year, paranoid by 2012 end of life rumor, I started to dig some info how to prepare a livable condition on that land in case something bad really happens. After a few weeks googling, talking to contractors, the conclusion is too expensive and too time consuming. One day all of a sudden, stumbled upon a shortsale property in the same neighborhood. At the end of February, we got a house on twenty acres.
This is the photo from above.
So let the country live begin, part time for now or a hobby farmer/rancher. First of all, read and follow all these blogs to understand more about country live: http://www.blogger.com/profile/02435811789823712254 Then will try all these projects: A garden to grow flowers and vegetables – places to get idea are sunset.com, bhg.com, hgtv.com, etc.; A fish pond; A barnyard to raise animals – start with chicken(TSC Stores), goats, rabbits, peacocks, ducks, emus, llamas, dogs, cows, bees; An orchard – so far hoarded, in pots, a peach tree, an apricot tree, two blueberries, a lime tree and a mandarin tree, to be transplant to the yard. The plan is after 3-5 years and I still like the country, then I will retire and live there full time and be self-sufficient. |
