Here Comes Spring

It was a beautiful and sunny afternoon. Birds are singing. Flowers are blooming. Spring is around the corner. What a wonderful season. I went to bus stop to pick up my son. On the way home, we began our daily chatting.

"Son, what did you learn in school today?"

"Mom, we learned how to write poems."

"Would you like to read your poems to me?"

" Sure, mom."

He took his poems out of his backpack and started to read them to me. It is so amazing that he can write poems. In my eyes, he is still that tiny baby that I once held in my arms and sang him lullabies. Now he is ten years old and in fourth grade. He is such a bright kid and has a terrific sense of humors that always crack me up.

I once said to him:"Son, you are my sunshine."

" Mom, I am not sun. And I do not shine."He replied.

"Mom, why don't you write a poem?"

"But I do not know how."

"It is easy. How about writing a Haiku poem?"

I heard about haiku poem before. I have never thought that I could write one.

"Mom, that is how to write a haiku poem." He began to tell me all about haiku.

Haiku is a form of ancient Japanese poetry. The poems are often written about things in nature or seasons. They are also written about emotions or feelings about something. There are 17 syllables up to three lines. There are 5 syllables in first line,7 syllables in second line; 5 syllables in third line."

After his detailed explanations, I came up with my first haiku about Spring. Son, thank you for teaching mom how to write haiku. You will know much more than mom ever knows.

Here comes a Spring Day
Beautiful flowers blooming
Colorful and bright
